EBCOG position statement on Inequalities in screening for cervical and breast cancer
Eur J Obstet Gynecol Reprod Biol. 2023 Aug 30:S0301-2115(23)00692-9. doi: 10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.08.386. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGynaecological cancers, namely breast and cervical cancer represent a high burden in women's health. It is well established that cervical and breast cancer screening programmes are effective in reducing morbidity and mortality. It is of the most importance to define strategies to provide a universal access to screening. In European countries, significant progress has been made over the past years concerning screening strategies, namely the choice of screening test, its frequency as well as t...

Novel competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the detection of the high-risk Human Papillomavirus 18 E6 oncoprotein
PLoS One. 2023 Aug 15;18(8):e0290088. doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0290088. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTCervical cancer represents a global concern with 604,000 new cases and 342,000 deaths reported annually, with the vast majority diagnosed in low income countries. Despite high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HR HPV)-induced cervical cancer has become highly preventable through prophylactic vaccines, screening programs are critical in the control of cervical carcinogenesis in populations with limited access to vaccination and in older generations of women who have already been exposed to HR HPV infection. The surge of HPV molecular ...

Human papillomavirus vaccine acceptance among adolescent girls in Ethiopia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Human papillomavirus vaccine acceptance of adolescent girls in Ethiopia was low. Knowledge about the vaccine and attitude to vaccination were positively associated with their vaccine acceptance. Therefore, policymakers and program planners should target school-aged adolescents in increasing their awareness and changing their attitudes to enhance their vaccine acceptance in order to prevent and control cervical cancer.PMID:37461006 | DOI:10.1186/s12889-023-16305-3

Managing the transition in cervical screening methods for Taiwan: Policy recommendations and perspectives
J Formos Med Assoc. 2023 Jul 12:S0929-6646(23)00246-2. doi: 10.1016/j.jfma.2023.06.018. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSince government-provided annual cervical cytology testing for all Taiwanese women aged 30 years or older became available in 1995, both cervical cancer incidence and death have decreased significantly. However, with the 2018 introduction of the national immunization program for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in all schoolgirls aged 13-15 years old, the positive predictive value of cytology testing is expected to decrease with rising vaccination rates, and therefore a transition to more sensitive HP...

Systematic literature review of primary and secondary cervical cancer prevention programs in South America
CONCLUSIONS: No documents were found about a national HPV vaccination program in French Guiana and Venezuela, and no official guidelines for cervical cancer screening were found for Suriname and Venezuela; thus, it will be difficult to eliminate this public health problem in these countries. Countries in South America must update their guidelines for HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening as new evidence emerges. Official websites with information about HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening are important sources that can be accessed by health professionals and the population.PMID:37405122 | PMC:PMC10317248 |...
